The third seminar in the series Seminars with Editors-in-Chief of Prestigious Academic Journals will be led by Professor Johann Fortwengel, General Editor (Editor-in-Chief) of the Journal of Management Studies.

The seminar is addressed to academic staff and doctoral students interested in publishing in leading international journals in the field of management and quality sciences. It will focus on the specific profile of the Journal of Management Studies, good publication practices, common reasons for desk rejection, expectations of top academic journals, and effective ways of navigating the review process towards acceptance and publication.

Participants will also have the opportunity to consult their completed articles, article drafts, preliminary concepts, or initial ideas for future papers with Professor Johann Fortwengel. The workshop and Q&A session will provide space for practical guidance and constructive feedback aimed at supporting more effective publication in high-ranking academic journals.

Research profile

Professor Johann Fortwengel’s research focuses on multinational enterprises, institutional environments, and the dynamics of organizational identity in international contexts. His work examines how firms operate across institutional differences and how organizational practices and identities evolve during international expansion.

Academic career

Professor Fortwengel is Professor of International Management and Head of the Department of Strategy, International Management & Entrepreneurship at King’s Business School, King’s College London. He joined King’s in 2016 and previously served as Reader, Senior Lecturer, and Lecturer in International Management. Before moving to the UK, he held postdoctoral research fellowships at the University of Michigan and the University of South Carolina. In 2023 he was Visiting Professor at the D’Amore-McKim School of Business, Northeastern University.

Scientific contributions

Professor Fortwengel has published widely in leading journals in management and international business. His research has made important contributions to the study of multinational corporations, institutional contexts, practice transfer within organizations, and the formation of organizational identity.

His work has appeared in journals such as Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, Journal of World Business, Organization Science, and Strategic Organization. Recent publications address topics including the organizational identity of multinational enterprises, the interaction between multinational firms and host-country institutions, and the dynamics of organizational goals and boundaries.

Editorial roles

Professor Fortwengel serves as General Editor (Editor-in-Chief) of the Journal of Management Studies. He has previously served as Associate Editor and Outreach Editor of the journal. He has also been a member of the editorial boards of several leading international journals, including the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management Studies, Management International Review, and Strategic Organization.

Research funding and recognition

His research has been supported by competitive funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the British Academy/Leverhulme Trust. He has received multiple awards recognizing his contributions to research, peer reviewing, and teaching.
